Row over Delhi's anti-encroachment demolition drive turns into a full-blown political war

·   0

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought appointment with Union Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu to discuss the issue. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Bhagwant Mann will also serve a notice to raise demolition issue in Parliament. AAP MPs will be staging a dharna before the Gandhi statue around 11 AM on Monday.
The AAP government has called the demolition drive a conspiracy. "It has taken place at a time when Parliament is running and the weather is so bad. It did not happen even at the time of Commonwealth Games, then why now," Delhi PWD Minister Satyendra Jain said.
Jain also said that the state government is trying to arrange all the possible help for the people at Shakurpur Basti. "Tents have been provided, medical facilities have also been being arranged," he said.
Meanwhile, the Union government has said that Prabhu is ready to give a statement in the House over the incident.
Police had said prima facie the baby died due to suffocation after a heap of clothes fell on it when the parents were preparing to move out of the jhuggi and hence no case was registered.
